A letter from our Executive Director

It has been an exciting few months for My Possibilities and the new MP Campus for Higher Learning.

We announced a major new partner, HEB/Central Market, coming on board to support the campus as well as the organization, contributing $225,000 to the capital campaign and $30,000 for program operations.  Along with other corporate contributions to the campaign, we have now reached over $250,000 of the $500,000 corporate matching grant provided by Alliance Data; however, we are still looking for corporations and businesses to invest in the future of My Possibilities by doubling their contribution.

Currently, we are planning on occupying our new home in March of 2018, with a full move-in for all HIPsters and Staff by April 2018. We are looking for supporters who have access to discounted pricing on technology equipment (computers, switches, servers, etc), trees/landscaping connections, and outdoor athletic equipment. If you have anybody in mind, please ask them to email me directly at director@mptx.org.

To date, we have raised over $14 million toward our $25-million goal. Upon raising the next $4 million, we will begin construction on the second building, the School of Vocational Training. We need your support now more than ever, as the need for our services grows daily.

Sincerely,

Signature_MichaelThomas

HIPster Golf Classic – That’s a wrap!

We are excited to report that at this year’s tournament we raised over $90,000 for our HIPsters! Over 100 players played our brand new format, combining traditional golf with some fun challenges thrown into the mix. ALL photos can be found here! We cannot possibly say “thank you” enough to the staff, volunteers and crew who made it happen.

Roy
Volunteer Spotlight – Roy Mewbourne
After My Possibilities launched its capital campaign in June, Roy was determined to do his part to make the dream a reality for all HIPsters, especially his son Richie, who currently attends MP. In June, Roy began his journey to fundraise an ambitious goal – $20,000. In September he reached that goal, but instead of stopping there, Roy accepted a new challenge by increasing his goal another $10,000.  He is now well on his way to achieving that target!

If you want to contribute to Roy’s campaign, please click here. If you are interested in fundraising for the MP campus yourself, contact Adrienne Mageors at amageors@mptx.org or call 469-241-9100 x104.

Staff Updates

April_Allen
April Allen, Director of Special Programs
Prior to joining My Possibilities, April served as Chief Program Officer for Ability Connection Texas. She has served individuals with disabilities in various capacities for nearly 20 years. Starting out as a college student working summer camps and providing respite care, she knew this was the path she would choose, and has dedicated her career to improving overall quality of life for people with disabilities. She served for 9 years at The Arc of North Texas, working closely with advocates and legislators to identify critical gaps in services and creating programs to meet the most immediate needs.
Kelsey_Cairns2
Kelsey Cairns, HIPster & Family Liaison
Kelsey is from the small town of Rice, Minnesota and moved to Texas in November 2016. Prior to My Possibilities, Kelsey worked at a nonprofit day program center called Independence Center Inc for three years. She then went to Wacosa for four years, a DT&H where she grew to a lead of the program. Kelsey spent her years growing up in dance, winterguard, softball, coaching/instructing and enjoys fishing, camping, and traveling, but also loves being a homebody. The amount of heart, passion and joy Kelsey has for making a difference in all the lives she touches is inspiring. We’re thrilled to have her for the ideas, strategy, and experience she can bring to My Possibilities.

 Courtney
Courtney Doarne, Front Desk Specialist
Courtney has her Bachelor’s degree in psychology and is currently a graduate student at UT Arlington, studying to become a social worker. She was raised in a military family, so she has lived all over the United States. Currently she lives here in Plano with her fiancé and three spoiled cats. Whenever she has free time, she enjoys going on movie dates and finding unique things Dallas has to offer, but mostly enjoys spending time with her family and friends!

Morgan_McKay
Morgan McKay, Behavior Interventionist – BCBA
Morgan went to University of North Texas for her Bachelor’s in Education and Master’s in Autism Intervention, later becoming a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Previously, she worked at a local school district for six years as a life skills teacher and then  as a district-wide behavior interventionist.
Morgan grew up in Plano and is glad to be back in this area. She has two amazing fur babies, Caramel and Apple, who are both rescue dogs.
Cayla_Ramon
Cayla Ramon, M.S., CCC-SLP, Speech Therapist
Cayla graduated with her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Texas Woman’s University. Previously, she worked for a local school district specializing in speech therapy with preschool-aged children. Cayla is a native Texan and current resident of Denton. She looks forward to moving to Plano in October with her fiancé, Ryan. Cayla is a cat-enthusiast, and a Dallas Stars hockey fan.
Jill_R_gray
Jill Rodriguez, White Team Instructor
Jill has an electrical engineering degree from Stanford University and an MBA from the University of Dallas.  She has spent most of her career in engineering, working in both the wireless telecommunications and the hearing aid industry.

Jill made a deliberate career switch a year ago and started working with adults with disabilities. She loves this more than anything she’s ever done and believes she has found the ultimate career for her heart!  In her spare time, she plays on a recreational volleyball team and also takes African drumming and dancing classes.

Holly_Sadler
Holly Sadler, Program Assistant
Holly was born in Dallas, Texas and grew up in the Plano area.  She moved to the green state of Oregon in high school where she was inspired to pursue a career in the culinary arts. She went to culinary school straight after graduation and enjoyed every minute of it. From the age of 18, she’s submerged herself in the “foodie” world and loves to teach anyone how to cook anything! Her hobbies are cooking (obviously), anything girly and swimming.

Daysie_Villalobos
Daysie Villalobos, Front Desk Specialist
Daysie attended TWU and graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Communication Disorders. She’s 27 years old and is a single mother to a 3-year-old boy named Covino. Apart from MP, Daysie works in Homehealth as a Speech and Language Pathologist’s Assistant. Her hobbies consist of reading, spending time with family and dancing (big fan of all Latin music). She’s also bilingual (English and Spanish) with some background in Sign Language.

Lauren

With a heavy heart we send our Marketing Coordinator, Lauren McCormick off to her next endeavor. We are excited that she has accepted a job with George P Johnson, a corporate event firm in Plano, but both the staff and HIPsters will miss her laugh and creative ideas.

Over the past two and a half years, Lauren has worked hard to establish MP’s brand online, educate and raise awareness of our programs and growth, and has done all things North Texas Giving Day.  Lauren has been a valued member of the Resource Development team, and she will be sorely missed. At the same time, we are very happy that she is furthering her career and pursuing her goals. Please join us is saying, “See you later,” to Lauren as she begins her next endeavor!

Therapy Corner

Evan A3
Evan started speech therapy in April 2017. When he began, he used single words to initiate conversation such as “Rangers” if he wanted to talk to you about the Rangers game score of the past week (he LOVES sports). He also had issues organizing his thoughts and communicating things in sequential order of occurrence.

Through hard work and perseverance, over the past four months, Evan is now able to independently use up to three or more word phrases as well as sequence stories and personal recent events to better communicate with his peers and staff at My Possibilities. Evan not only works hard, but never complains when pushed to his greatest capabilities. You will never see Evan without a smile on his face. He is a great example of how quickly you can improve when provided with the necessary tools and strategies. Evan is bright, ambitious, and hard-working and will continue to flourish through speech therapy and in the My Possibilities program to become a master communicator!

Donor Spotlight – Capital One

We are so excited that Capital One has donated $5,000 to support our HIPsters in MPU! This program allows our HIPsters to explore and discover their interests in vocation, leadership, continued education and volunteering within the community. Capital One is a company that strongly believes in the concept of Diversity & Inclusion, and to educate their employees, they also send a group of volunteers to MP at least twice a month. We are so proud to have them as part of the MP Family!
